As a kid you have a lot of heroes and sadly as you get older there are fewer and fewer who qualify. One of my heroes died this week, Fess Parker, the actor who played Davy Crockett in the Disney films. Or, if you're younger, Daniel Boone.

Trevor Booker's stellar career at Clemson ended on a sour note. You can thank "The Fastest 40 Minutes in Basketball" for that. Kim English and Keith Ramsey each scored 20 points, and Missouri's swarming defense lived up to its reputation during an 86-78 victory over Clemson in the first round of the NCAA tournament Friday.

ROBBER Dameon Tolley has been jailed for a total of 27 months after he targeted a vulnerable 16-year-old boy. The 25-year-old robbed the teenager at 2.45pm on September 11 last year as he walked alone on a disused railway line in Berry Hill. Prosecutor Robert Price told Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court yesterday Tolley asked the youth for the time. The victim took out his mobile phone and told him the time and carried on walking.

TWENTY-YEAR-OLD Lee Plimmer has been sentenced to 15 months' in a Young Offenders' Institution for punching a man and driving dangerously. Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court was yesterday told Plimmer assaulted Daniel Metcalfe in the Duke of Wellington pub, Blythe Bridge, on November 28, at about 10pm. He went inside and punched Mr Metcalfe in the mouth, because he believed he had made nasty comments about his cousin.
